back up disc ?

My laptop(Presario V6000 Series) has XP Pro(media center) on it and all the other crap from HP.
I have uninstalled some of the programs but some would not completely uninstall.I made recovery disc so I'm planning on wiping the hd clean and then reinstalling XP.I really don't want to install all the extra HP crap. Is there anyway to install just XP off of the recovery disc and not the HP crap?
I read something about copying the i386 file off of the disc and that would work but I'm not sure how to do it. Can I make a disc of just XP from the hd and then format, reinstall from disc that way? How would I do that?
Thanks for any Help.

There are tons of ways how you can do that. Some are simple and some are not.The most simple way for you which comes to my mind is the following:

-make a clean install with that recovery disk
-uninstall all the thing (crap) whichyou do not want to have
-use programs like DriveClone Pro and make a complete clone of your hard disk drive on a CD/DVD medium or external hard disk drive

ADVICE 1: Do not make clone on the same hard disk drive from which you are making the clone from otherwise if that hard disk drive fails, the clone will be destroyed too! Also the clone might be corrupted if cloning from one drive to the SAME drive! So do not do that.

ADVICE 2: Clone the entire hard disk drive and not just some partition(s)!

From here on whenever you want to reinstall Windows, all you have to do is to use the original recovery disk to reinstall it (I know all the crap will again then be there, but keep reading) and then use the DriveClone Pro to return your previously cloned hard disk drive from the CD/DVD medium or an external hard disk drive back to your internal hard disk drive in your computer/laptop/netbook.Once that has been done, you will again have everything just like you like it/want it.

Here is an image sample of how the cloning process looks like:

Cheers everyone!

Thanks S.T.A.R.S.
I'll give that a try. I did install a different hd(OCZ SSD 120GB) and installed Win XP Home(retail) on that but now it won't boot pass the XP screen(shows that xp is loading)and then it freezes up. I downloaded all the drivers and such from HP.com onto a cd with my desktop, installed
the NVIDIA Ge Force Video driver, then the NVIDIA nForce Chipset Driver and Network Controller and when it rebooted XP would not load.Do you think I should clear the ram
(with jumper or on board battery) and then do a fresh install of XP Home and drivers?
I don't think I would use all the xtras that come with XP Pro(media center) so Xp Home would be fine.
Any help or ideas is really appreciated. Thanks.
