Can anyone recommend any good backup software - I understand Norton Ghost 12 is supposed to be good and I noticed one called Paragon in PC world in addition to one called Norton 360 which is supposed to cover all aspects of security but then states on the box `protection for a year' I am only a novice in respect to computing and dont know which to go for. Can anyone help?

what are you trying to back up exactly? The whole system as is programs and all? Will it be just one system, or backing up several or like 100s of computers?

I use a program called Acronis True Image 10.0 . It works great lets me back up to an external harddrive. Makes complete image of your drive. Only draw back is it's not free.

How Much?

That sounds good - How much is it? My computer has crashed several times and I have lost quite a lot of documents. But would like to copy the entire hard drive. Would I be able to reinstall on a new computer? As I have decided if the laptop I am using crashes again that will be my next option.

Paragon Drive Backup 8.5

Forgot to mention bought a computer magazine and it had a free back up disk Paragon Drive Backup 8.5 Is this any good?

I don't know about Paragon but you can buy Acronis here (http://www.acronis.com/ ). I know it works it will have you to make a rescue disc so that if your system crashes you will be able to boot back into the system and restore it from your backup.

i don't know should i make a new thread or ask in this same thread

i wanted to ask that can we backup the data from a crashed and then formatted HDD

and will we get all our stuff back in proper conditions from the formatted HDD

please tell coz i haven't done it at all and it's important coz HDD can crash anytime

thanks

Try Norton Ghost. I picked it up from Newegg for around $30. It works better for my home networked computers than Acronis.
