Not quite sure if this is the place for it, so if it's not, please move it, Mr. Moderator.
I did a search and can't find really find my problem mentioned.
I had about 60 legally downloaded .wma files (Wal-Mart music downloads) and I regularly backed up the licenses for them in WMP10. Two days ago, I backed everything up to DVD-RW so I could put everything on new a new hard drive.
When I go to use my backup, I get a popup message saying that Windows Media Player cannot restore my licenses because I've exceeded the restore limit for the day and to try again tomorrow. Huh??
So I click the "Web Help" button, and this pops up:
"The license restoration service identifies a unique computer by reading its hardware and Windows ID numbers. These numbers may change if you replace certain hardware components in your computer or if you reformat your hard disk prior to reinstalling Windows. If your computer's ID numbers change and you try to restore your licenses, the restore service will think you are trying to restore your licenses to a new (unique) computer."
I click the Continue button, it says to try again, and I get a WMP popup saying that WMP has restored my licenses, but with restrictions, and that some were not restored. I go to play the licensed .wmas and all but three of them say I need a new license.
What kind of crap is this?? Am I SOL here and lost 57 music files that I bought and paid for?
