I am about to upgrade to windows xp and i was wondering about backing up my files on a cd. Is it best to just make a data cd for all my movies and mp3's, and if so how do i put those back onto my computer, do i have to rip everything all over? and my same question applies for full programs i have downloaded and installed, should i burn those onto a disk as data and if so once i install xp and put the cd in how do i get the program onto the computer, help would be greatly appreciated.

Well

You can be selective and only choose the most important parts that you want to backup. I backed up my IE favorites, my MUSIC, my DOWNLOADS...and split them up into CDs (700megs each). However, in order to make an image of the HDD, you would need to use some specialist software, because there is no simple way of simply backing up an already installed program or game. Or get a DVD burner . If you have another HDD, you could create an image of the drive on it. That could be a 100% backup keeping all your settings...EVERYTHING.
