Backing up music files

If I want to back up music files (mp3/wma format etc) to reinstall on my pc after format. Do I have to back up as audio or can I back up as data files? What is the best way as I have hundreds.....also can you back up on to DVD as they are 4.7gb?? instead of CD 700mb?
 
Well it all depends on what you have available to you.

Do you have 2 hd on your computer?
Do you have a dvd burner? Or just a cd burner?
 
I would go ahead and zip the files into about 1 gb files. Then burn them as data onto a dvd... Makes things a little easier.
 
From your other thread, you said you have limited access to program and other things... Can you open the program which allows you to burn the files to the DVD?

How were you planning on burning the dvd's?
 
I with regards to other thread I cant actually open any programs to burn dvds etc. I am still interested in the best way to do this anyway....If id have had them backed up in the first place I would not have the risk of losing them now
 
or if you have a karge pen drive (USB) you can shove some of them on there, i have a 2Gb one and a 1Gb one, so that could store 3Gb of music, do you have one?? or can you borrow a large one from a friend, gotta be big though, no point using a measley 128Mb etc...

well, one thing you can do, is simply shove them on a DVD. a USB Drive is expensise, so its not relally smart to buy one. So her eis what we can do.
Check on your CD\DVD drive if it has anything like DVD burner on it. then, if it does, get a blank DVD, put it into your DVD drive, go to 'my computer' 'blank DVD' or DVD Drive, open it, drag all your songs into it (no need to zip them) and then when all your songs are in there, press 'copy' or 'burn' or whatever....it is in the left panel.

Any problems, just ask!

He is having trouble with the burning, downloading... opening almost any program on his pc...
 
darn......well, if he can't burn without using a program (or can't burn at all) i suggest you grag one of your friends SD card (like the card they use in digital cameras) or put your sing on the flash memory of an ipod (if you have one) or the USB.

For the ipod, its simple.
Plug your ipod with the USB cable.
Go to 'my computer', >>> 'Ipod' drive, and open it.
copy or drag all the songs into it.

now, this way, you won't be able to play your songs with the ipod, they are simply stored. Tell us how it goes.

For the SD card, do the exact same thing then the ipod, only go to your Card drive instead of he ipod Drive.
