Backing up to External Hard Drive

Can anyone tell me how I can backup large chunks of info with just a few clicks on to an external hard drive. For example, how do I take ALL the info I have stored in MS Outlook, contacts, e-mails etc and move it all over to the external hard drive for backup. My computer is running very slow and was told that if I restore it to factory settings and wipe everything off it will perform better. I have done a full virus scan to see if that would help. It helped a little but it is still not what it was when I first got. Any other ideas would be helpful.
 
i would think,(not sure) but i would think you could jsut drag all of them into your exteral drive, try using explorer for that...
