I have a seagate external drive. I have been backing up random folders and documents to it for some time now. Here is my question. Can I delete everything off of my seagate and then just transfer my entire C drive to it in one move? Thanks, D

Ive used some software called Acronis True image for years and works well. Not free though. you even have an option to update the image it creates months later. it will create a boot cd and get your usb working in dos.

Yes of course you can copy entire C: drive on the USB drive:

-Format your USB HDD completely in the Disk Management.So...delete ALL the partitions from that HDD,create just one new partition that uses the ENTIRE HDD and format it using the NTFS file system. Also turn be sure to turn off the options "Quick format" and "Enable file and folder compression"!!!

-After the formatting process is finished, close the Disk Management,go into that USB HDD and there create the new folder called for example "CLONE".

-Now open your CD/DVD-ROM drive tray, put in the Linux Ubuntu 9.04 32-bit edition CD and restart your computer.

-After your computer has restarted,go in the BIOS and set your CD/DVD-ROM drive to be the first device to boot from, your computer's HDD to be the second device to boot from and the USB HDD to be the third device to boot from.Save the BIOS changes and restart your computer by using the BIOS options usually located on the "Exit" tab...

-After your computer has restarted, the Linux Ubuntu 9.04 CD will start booting. For the language choose "English" and after that choose the first option called "Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer".

-Linux Ubuntu 9.04 will start loading all the neccessary files from its CD so be patient as this may take some time...

-After the loading is completed, you will see the Linux Ubuntu desktop. Now go in "Places" ---> "Computer".Now go into your computer's HDD,there select ALL items then right click on any of them and then click "Copy".Now click on the "Computer" button located above. Now go into the USB HDD then go into the folder "CLONE" and there right click with your mouse and then click "Paste".

-The copying process has started and it can take up to 5 hours so let it finish!!!

-After the copying process is finished, close the window then go in the upper right corner, click the "Live session user" then click "Shut Down" and on the small window that has just opened also click "Shut Down".The computer will now start shutting down.Right before the computer has shutted down completely you will get a message that says: "Please remove the disk, close the tray (if any) and press ENTER to continue".So open your CD/DVD-ROM drive tray, remove the Linux Ubuntu 9.04 32-bit edition CD,close the tray and then press the ENTER button on your keyboard.

-THATS IT!You now have the complete clone of your entire drive C:

ADVICE: If your Windows OS stops working wether if the cause is the virus or some missing Windows files...and so on...using the Linux Ubuntu 9.04 delete EVERYTHING from your computer's HDD from that C: disk and then just copy EVERYTHING from that USB HDD "CLONE" folder back to your computer's HDD in that C: disk using Linux Ubuntu 9.04 on the SAME way as you did it before. And there you go...you again have the fully working computer;)

NOTE: If the BOOT SECTOR is also corrupted, then create it with your Windows OS CD or DVD before performing the above advice!!!
