It can be done, and isn't entirely too difficult to do yourself. But, since it sounds like you haven't done it before, I recommend that you instead take the monitor to a professional. The parts involved are rather delicate. You can end up doing more damage to the unit if you are not careful.

How old is the monitor?
 
Just over 2 years. But it's hard to say how long it's sat on the shelf. I hardly ever turn it off. But just the other day, I had to let the computer run for 15 minutes to feed a signal to it so it would warm up, then I could get the display to work.
 
Heck I only paid just over $300 for it. I see they're a little under now. It still works, it's just that I have to wait a quarter hour with a signal running to it (blue power light is on) if I shut it off long enough for it to cool down.
