backup batter supply

APC makes good ones, IMHO. Just make sure the unit can supply your wattage needs to give you sufficient time to shut down.

1285VA Geek Squad UPS

that UPS is a good one, it has a display to tell you how much time you have on the batteries (estimated run time), input voltage, output voltage, output in KW, output in hz, power consumption, its a pretty cool UPS, i get like 40 min of battery time, with my signature rig, a 19" CRT, a laptop, and my speakers

I would personally lean toward an APC brand UPS over Geek Squad and some of the other options out there... Their equipment has a 2 year warranty, and is generally the best bang for the buck.

If you are looking for a UPS to just back up files in the case of a power outage, then I'd go something in the 500 VA neighborhood, like this:

A unit with phone and cable surge protection (and some extra time):

Or if you want to have a cushion of time to finish a project or something, this series is more designed for that purpose:

Be sure to check out the specs (as far as the time it takes to back-up items, etc.) when considering these options as well...

APC is what my dad has always used in his business (currently using a 1000 va model) and APC is what I use. They work very well, and have good warranties. I get about 10 minutes off of mine (because it is old and I have a 19" CRT) but my dad gets like an hour.
