Backup software walkthough

I've been using F Backup for the past few months and I am not sure how to use it properly.

I currently have two 2tb WD caviar green drives. I would like to start fro scratch with new software and backup schedule. I want the simplest GUI that will mirror my C drive on a set schedule and has a simple recovery process. Any suggestions for software? Software also needs to be free.

I use time machine for my mac which is super simple

Everytime I start the backup process I get a prompt asking me to restart my computer for changes to take effect. If I select reboot, my computer shuts down then reboots to the mobo screen and freezes. Am I doing something wrong?
