Suggestions for a (free?) backup program for my PC?

Windows has a built in backup. You just sometimes have to install it manually (like I had to do). I think it works just great! You can read how to do that below:

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

SyncToy is another good one, since it only copies over files that are modified/created, so you don't have to spend extra time copying files over that haven't changed since the last backup.

An external hard drive or a backup internal if you have one.

Best place depends on how much data you have to backup. If it's not much (few videos, photos, music, etc), then DVD's may be fine. Otherwise the easiest way is to back it up to an external hard drive.
