Bad boot.ini on XP cd?

Hello all,

I recently corrupted my registry beyond repair so I decided to format and reinstall windows. However, when I insert the windows disk before boot, I hit any key and then it displays " bad boot.ini" and then tries to boot from the normal c drive which obviously will not work because of the damaged registry.

I have experimented with other computers and they are all able to boot from the same windows cd just fine.

boot off your XP cd and go into recovery console mode.

Then you need to run

bootcfg /rebuild

and

fixboot

that will rebuild the boot.ini file

Yeah but the thing is I cannot get the cd to boot. It reads press any key to boot from cd like normal, but when I hit a key it displays "bad boot.ini" or whatever and then resorts to trying to boot from c like normal. Is it possible for the cd to not work for one computer and work for others?
