hey guys i am like 300ft from the main router which is the limit. I have verizon fios and am using the router they gave me. I am currently getting 1.0Mbps! It is really slow internet! worse than dial-up! I was wondering if there was an antenna that i can mount outside on my house and have a cable that comes in and connects to where the existing antenna is on my linksys wireless card?
I got a wrt54g router to expand my network and i guess it got confused with the main router.
All in all i need a better signal! withe ease of set-up.
does anyone know if verizon sells a repeater or range extender for their fios users?
should i upgrade my wireless card?
Suggestions please!
Thanks!
Jeff

this wont help you, but i just wanted to point out you 1.0MBPS to dial-up

my old dial-up was about 1KBPS
our current DSL is 30KBPS

it takes 10 minutes to download 25 Megabytes

so be happy with what you have, i know i am;)

(no, i am not trying to put you down:P)

Yeah but still...Its ridiculous. I can barely upload pictures to photobucket or anything! I should have like 80Kbps

Sounds to me that your using wireless and thats whats slow, not the Inet connection. Maybe you are getting a really weak signal from your wireless router... try hooking up with a cat5e cable and see if that helps.

While a better antenna would help a bit, the best thing to do is move the wireless router/AP closer to you, but if that's not possible try to get it as high up as possible and away from furniture. Also switching to an external wireless card with an external antenna would increase your range/speed.

I really can't move the router and it's on top of a tall computer desk.
Do you have any recommendations?
Is there like an antenna that i can hook to the wireless card? Like if i take off the existing antenna and hook it to that?
