Bad DVD drive

I have a samsung cd/dvd drive on my PC for a year now and its always ejecting every time I turn on my PC, when I place a CD or DVD on it it kept ejecting the CD for atleast a 100 times. does this happen to all samsung brand or just mine, bec my other samsung brand seems to be having the same simptoms:confused:

When first starting the system any player or burning software set to auto eject a disk wouldn't have had a chance to load. If your boot order is set to cd rom the non system disk in the drive would see a boot error message but not see the disk ejected. The drive apparently have a flaw on their controller cards. Plan on getting a different brand drive for a replacement. They were probably both from a bad batch of drives.

my first boot device is on the HD. Damn computer store where i bought this. they only have 6month of warranty for this. wont be buying a samsung cdrom for a long time.

I've had good luck with Samsung. I used to sell a lot of them. I will say that they were ugly as sin though.

Since you need DVD capability, I recommend LG. The infamous Lucky Goldstar Corporation. They're cheap and they're very reliable. $22.99 for a DVD/RW buddy. It doesn't get better than that.

Oh really? Lite-On or Sony seems to get better word. Samsung doesn't quite often. For a look at some Lite-On combos, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...336&Submit=ENE&Manufactory=1336&SubCategory=5

Newegg apparently is a little low on Sony models, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...112&Submit=ENE&Manufactory=1112&SubCategory=5

Personally I run two burners(1 dvd-r/rw slaved to 1 cd-r/rw) rather then going with combo drives of any make. They are far more reliable as a rule. Plus data dvds hold far more when backing a drive. The Sony models used here are now in the third build and are still holding up.

Gets better word from you? You and your circle of poker buddies?

By the way, I've never heard anywhere else where combo drives are less reliable than single drives. Without telling us your experience with power supplies and PS/1s, could you provide references please?

I use a lot of LITEON drives had good luck with them and I agree LGs are good drives, pretty low cost too! Got a stack of sonys here that I have replaced, so no I dont like sony drives!! And yea, never used them but samsungs are one ugly ass drive!! Who ever they get to make the drive front panels needs to be slapped!!

Keep on topic, don't let this get to an argument and stay on the issue itself, not which brand is better.

What model is your samsung? It sounds like a defect or even something is causing it to do that; if you know the model, look around and see if there is a history of problems with that particular model.

Additionally, this could be a hoax. There was a program that causes this exact thing to happen where it constantly ejects your drive.

Are you suspecting a malware of some type? The contacts for the momentary eject button being stuck together or some flaw on the controller card would be the hardware causes to look at. If there was another optical drive lying around from an old case to try out and that also saw the disk being constantly ejected then you would then consider some type of malware.

It isn't malware. It happens at boot up as well if you were paying attention. This rules malware out. It isn't a sticky button, because sticky buttons will bring the tray out and leave it out. It isn't the controller card, because the IDE controller doesn't in itself control the opening of the tray.

It sounds like the circuit in the CDROM. I would say it's time to get a new one.

And I noticed that we didn't get any references ONCE AGAIN from PC Eye as requested. Chalk it up to another experience I guess. A lot to say, but nothing to back it up when called upon. Too bad really... He's not a bad guy.

"It isn't the controller card, because the IDE controller doesn't..."

The controller card on the cd/dvd combo drive is not the same thing as the ide controller on the board. The leads from the button go down to the card in the drive itself and open or close the drive when a circuit there is closed. That then sends power to the small motor inside that moves the gears for the disk tray.

If a wire was exposed and touching something else the intermittent contact there is less likely but possible as well. As you will note it wasn't my reference originally to any program or malware to account for this. oops! !

I think its the inside of circuit of the cd/dvd drive, bec when i tried to clean it by opening it removing all the screws after that it went ok for a couple of weeks. it is common for any cd/dvd drive for LED's to light up upon boot mine does not, i guess its a defective drive.

Whatever the defect is you have to remember that drives are mass produced and no matter what make and model some bad ones are going to find their way around. All you can do there is replace a bad one with a good one in simple terms no matter what brand name was seen on the package.

If you would have bothered to read my damn post I specified the difference between IDE controller and the CDROM circuit. Controller is the wrong terminology anyways. It is not a controller, it is a circuit. The controller is part of the interface.

Oh really? Then what the hell do you call this?

Are you suspecting a malware of some type? ...then you would then consider some type of malware.

If you followed the thread you would see the obvious answer to that question. :P :P :P !!!!!!

You're impossible. I think I'm going to give up on you. How many times have you gone off topic to try and pretend how smart you are (and even then you're proven wrong...SCSI cables anyone)? How many times have you only read half a post and looked silly by giving the wrong response? How many times have you given us all misinformation? How many times have you been proven wrong now? And how many times do you try and squirm out from underneath it with something equally ridiculous? It's just getting to the point of absurdity. I'm beginning to think it's hopeless. I know I shouldn't get frustrated with somebody on a message board, but damn it's hard not to. *sigh* :(

SCSI cables? Who was talking about SCSI cables here? The discussion here is on a Samsung combo cd/dvd drive with the disk tray constantly opening and a need to replace a drive.

still talking about my samsung cd/dvd drive, i have this another samsung cdrw/dvd drive burner on my other pc, when ever Iam doing something like typing on MSword or excel not doing any copying or scanning, my samsung cd writer led keeps on lighting, reading without any disks inside, this can be anoying if its the only thing you hear at night. another bad batch of drives? thus this drives ever been in quality control?

When you are running those applications something else may be busy trying to access the drive if the drive doesn't have an internal problem?
