Bad HDD conformation?

Hey there i'm working on a friends computer and would like to verify my thought before i tell him that his HDD is for sure bad.

Would not boot into Normal W7 OS, only Safe mode ( but not even that now). Auto repaire/ last known good.../ none of that is working. SO i got Hirem's BootCD and am currently running Seagate DiscWizard. I have gotten these Bad disc sector errors and there looks to be lots more...

My main reason for posting is that "can i run Seagates disk check on a WD drive and take the errors to heart?

This is random but how come you have no level bar thing under your avatar? I can see John's but not yours...

I'll have Ian fix the level bar. Are you running in AHCI mode? If so, switch the sata controller to IDE/compatibility in the bios.

Yes it was in AHCI mode, looks like only other option is "ATA" mode. I'll give it a shot. Also it looks like the BIOS is version A04, and A12 is available from Dell.com... I'll boot into my Live XP disk and install the update.

Thanks for the help so far.

Ya, "ATA" mode did not help. Still getting the 0xc00000e9 Error.

Bios update will have to wait till after work.

You will not be able to boot to windows with it in ata mode. Just so you know. Is that a bluescreen error code?

edit- Also have you tried running Dells diagnostic? Turn the laptop off. Press and hold the function key while pressing the power button. This will start the diagnostic utility. Then test the hdd. Make sure you put it back in ahci mode though.
