My computer won't boot up when I try turning it on. The light on the motherboard is lit, but nothing happens when I press the power button. I made sure that all the connections were secure too. Do I need to replace the motherboard, or might something else be causing this?
When I flip the switch on the back of the power supply, the green light on the motherboard turns on. When I press the power button on the case, nothing happens.
It could be a couple of things, maybe a fried component.
Here's what you can try to source it. Unplug the hard drive, and optical drive, then try to boot up.
Let me know how it goes.
Yeah, have you got some spare ram, graphics cards or power supplys laying around that you can change with the ones in your pc? I'm guessing it's either the graphics card or power supply.
My dad had a similar problem with a Dell he had in his showroom. The light on the mobo would go on when it was plugged in, but when the power button was pressed the "on" light would just flash yellow. I switched out the power supplies and the thing worked fine (for a Dell, anyway).
