Bad RAM ?

Hey forum,

Lately I have a problem with my computer.. it randomly restarts. It can't be a virus since I have reinstalled windows XP 32 bit, 10 times already .. and when my pc was clean I still kept having this problem.

I have 2GB of RAM in my computer, and I think it has something to do with my RAM. How could I test this ? I heard something about memtest but I'm not sure for what this program is.

Computer info:

OS: WIN XP SP3 32 BIT
Processor: Intel core duo E6850 3.0 GHz
RAM: 2GB
Graphic card: ATI RADEON HD 3870 (512 mb)

Lets see if its actually bluescreening on you.

Upon bootup of computer, start pressing the F8 button to access safe mode options. Arrow down to disable automatic restart on system failure and hit enter.

The next time it crashes, it should produce a blue screen with writing and an error code on it. We need that information.
 
Alright, I changed my OS from win xp sp 3 32 bit to win 7 32 bit ......

I got the following on my bluescreen:

Let it bluescreen a couple times and then do the following.

Download BlueScreenView
No installation required.
Unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

Also I would like for you to zip up the dump files located at c:\windows\minidump and then attach them to your next reply.

I would like at least 3 bluescreens to compare the results.
 
Alright, the program shows only 1 crash so I will have to wait for 2 more, after that I will attach the minidump + bsod.txt info (3 crashes)

Edit: I got results from 2 of the 3 bluescreens. 1 was related to video card or driver issue while playing fifa13. The other is hardware related but said the issue was with a file that belongs to either bitdefender or bulldog security software. Do you have either one installed?

If this was a memory issue, you wouldn't be able to install windows as you would get file copying errors, USUALLY anyway. However, I'm still not 100 percent sure whats going on here. Lets start by running memtest to be sure its not a memory issue.

Please download the ISO for memtest here.

Unzip it and then use burning software that can write iso files to a cd. Nero, Roxio, poweriso, imgburn or free iso burner will work just fine. Just don't burn the file you download to a cd, it won't work. You must use software that can write image files to a cd. After the cd has been created, boot to it and it will automatically start testing the memory. Let it run for a good 6 hours and if any errors pop up, then you need to replace the memory.

Thanks for your reply, for now I have manually updated my video card driver, and tested my RAM in memtest ...

my memtest results were: ECC correctable errors 3.

(since i have updated my videocard, it hasn't crashed .. but who knows maybe it will soon)

edit; and yes i have bitdefender + fifa 13.

Now im getting ALOT of BSOD ... before windows 7 I only had it rarely.

1: I did all the windows updates
2: All the driver updates in windows + driver updates from slimdriver
3: All my vans are working in my pc tower ...

what the hell is happening? :(
 
Most of those you posted are related to the video card. Can you try using a different one to see if they continue?
 
I can try to use the video card that my dad uses, i will plug it in when he comes home . If i should get a New video card one would you recommend (for gaming)

I will post the results of the vide card tomorrow !

He can't give me the videocard since he has it at his work .. i do have a onboard videocard on my motherboard .. is that useable ?
