so i was going to build a computer last march and bought some 1gb pc2-5300 memory early because it was on sale for $75. i got into a pickly with my old job and wound up having to find another job and so in the interim i didn't spend money on buying a new computer. well now that RAM is pretty outdated so i'm buying new g.skill ram (2gb) for $45 new. any idea what the hell i can do to get any of my money back on that old RAM? should i use it? anyone wanna buy it for cheap? it's PNY.
 
If you don't absolutely need the best product that came out last week, keep it. You already spent the money on it, it's never been used, and it's one less thing you need to buy. Unless you are a hard-core gamer, you'll never notice the difference.
 
Honestly used RAM isn't worth a thing, unless you're talking 4GB+ or high-end RAM. As you said yourself, you bought 2GB of RAM for $45, and you can buy 1GB of decent DDR2 RAM for about $25-$30, so at most you would make maybe $20 on selling it, which IMO isn't worth the struggle. I'd keep it just in case something goes wrong and you need to return your new RAM, or you want to sell it then upgrade, you will still have that 1GB of DDR2 lying around.
 
just do what i done-

keep all yer old hard drives and cards memory etc then put them on ebay..

my girlfriend was gonna throw it all out but i put it on and i sold the lot had a good few nights on the drink!!!!!
 
well i ordered my parts for my new computer today and i just decided not to get the 2gb RAM (sorry if there was confusion, since i hadn't bought it yet but was trying to decide) and instead i will use my old RAM. i will eventually OC when i want to play newer games down the road, and when i do that i'll get good RAM that's cheap then as well and will allow for a better OC. but i did pay for the RAM and it probably won't make a huge difference since i don't play every new game out there.

yeah it's not worth much used, i agree, and i also agree it won't make a huge difference for my use, and i also i agree since it's not worth much used, i may as well just use it, haha.
