bang for bucks? 5600+ x2

the brisbane will overclock better i believe but the windsor has more l2 cache i would really pick the brisbane because it is 65nm & lower watts so should overclock and stay cooler better

If you're not going to overclock, the Windsor might be better with more L2 cache (though people say it doesn't make a huge difference).

Personally, I'd choose the Brisbane for better overclocking abilities, less power usage, 65nm architecture, and runs cooler.

But yes, the 5600+ will bottleneck with a 9800GTX. The fastest GPU I would use with a 5600+ is probably a 3870.

I definitely agree. I think my 6000+ is pretty evenly matched with a 9600GT. A 9800GTX will definitely be somewhat bottlenecked, though not by a ton.

i'd get a 5400+ BE and just overclcok, you'll probably get 3.4ghz or so with it, my 5000+ can get to 3300 no issues (3200 with just a tiny bump in voltage, to 1.42)

so brisbane FTW then and wat about if he got 8800GT 512mb bottle neck too? oh he also told me that this is wat he wants to upgrade and said upgrade or new comp better?
