Bare Bones

Back in 01 I built a computer with an Asus P-4t. The powersupply went out. The mobo uses the old expensive rdram and has the earliest p-4 with 423 pins. I am waying my options to replace this system. It is a spare that my wife and duaghter use to search things on the net and do homework on. It will also have wireless connection.

I tried to catch up with the forums computor building 101 but it really didnt help me make my descisions any easier. If you are a builder and have a suggestion on a good value I would apreciate it.

If I went with an asus or gygabyte bare bones to replace it with and want to use my hard drives and cd/dvd recorder/players, what would be the best option pricewise and value wise. would like to stay with intell and use DDR. XP pro will be th OS with the possibility of an upgrade to Vista in the future. It doesn't have to be a super gamer or even smoking fast.

We are buisy around hear since Ike blew through and I really don't have time to catch up on all of the new hardware and would like to keep it simple. I usually get my stuff from a pricewatch vendor so that would help also.

Thanks in advance

What sort of budget are you looking at? I'd recommend going to www.newegg.com as would several other users here. If we know your budget we can build a machine for you from there.

Do you need a monitor, mouse & keyboard etc?

Thanks for the response Pablo.
Yes I have a monitor, keyboard and mouse. I guess what I was asking was if there is a mobo/BB combo out there that I could still use my hard drives and optic drives with.
I need suggestions on a processor as many mb's support a t least a few different ones. I think I can handle the ram.

I don't mind if the mobo has on board video and sound as my cards are probably not as good as what a new mobo has on board.

So MB, CPU, Ram, Case and PS for hopefully $250-$300 +/-. I do shop New egg and pricewatch.

Thanks again
