need to get a new gpu that can play 1080p movies on a 24 inch 1920x1200 screen without prob but nothing fancier. Whats the cheapest gpu I can get to do this? Mobo has no onboard gpu.

surprised that i need a gpu even that powerful. I always figured since movies are not "dynamic" video processing like video games, cpu would be able to do all the needed work.

thats the weakest 6000 series card made. You can't get less powerful unless you go back to the 4000 or 3000 line, and they are more expensive.

There may be a Nvidia that would work too, like a 210 or 520, but they are more expensive than the 6450

yes, The all verities of Intel HD can.

1080p is a static GPU load. The GPU just has to render the picture, not apply tessellation, AA, AF and such to it. Meaning that the GPU demand is a lot lower. Pretty Much if the card will run 1080p resolution, then it will play a movie at it.
