Barebone

You really can't get much with only $200. I am making a barebone (graphic card, mobo, case, power supply) and I used over $390! Well there are always also lower-end barebones but I wouldn't recommend it, because it is already outdated plus you would feel that you wasted your money.

what r u gonna do with ur comp? That is a pretty low end processor. And If u are planning to play games, you should look for a mobo with a PCI E slot.

I'm looking to surf the net, watch movies, download stuff and probably play the sims2. I currently have a 1.8 Ghz. pentium 4 so 3.06GHz sounds pretty good to me. This computer will be for the the family to use. And all they do is surf the web. And what do you mean by "low end"?

I'm looking to upgrade a little bit.
1GB of DDR Ram that i got from my gf old dell, I had 256 MB sdram b4 that
A 40 GB HD and a 80 GB HD
32 MB Radeon Videocard
Samsung DVD player
a CD burner that I forgot the brand.
I think i can get the sound card that was in the dell.

Don't be fooled by the Ghz factor my friend. Try to find something in an AMD chip if you can get it. I'm not a fanboy of AMD, I've just seen the difference between my 1.8 Ghz Pentium 4 laptop and my girlfriend's Dad's Athlon 64 3400+ running at about 2.2 Ghz. Sure it's only running "400 Mhz" faster according to the Ghz equation but it completely blows my system out of the water when it comes to gaming and anything else. Plus I don't know of anyone who is a big fan of the Celeron D CPU or the 775 socket mobo. Try this barebone with an Athlon 64 3000+ at 189.99 with rebate. Not a bad way to go if you ask me. Plus it will do everything you need and more.

Is there something wrong with Celeron D?

Ehh that depends on who you ask. The Celeron always boasts these "huge" Ghz performances but they never really live up to those because measuring by Ghz alone now-a-days is crazy. I guess you have to look up the benchmarks of an AMD chip vs. a Pentium chip to see what I mean. Plus, guys back me up here, the Celeron cpus run hotter too. Just trust me on this one. Don't get fooled by the Ghz math and instead get a lower end P4 or AMD chip which will 9/10 run faster and cooler than a Pentium.

If you want, ask everybody on here what chip they use. If ANYONE uses a Celeron for gaming or large amounts of programs I would be highly surprised.

Bottom line, Celeron processors are cheap for a reason...

i never really understood where the celerons fit in. The celerons must be good for SOMETHING.. right?
