Basic Computer Build

I am saving up for a Build around 600 CAD. I will be using this computer for light gaming (CS) and surfing the net, homework, and watching movies, listening to music. I want to try building it myself soo it will be cheaper. If there is something around 700 (with LCD Included) at bestbuy.ca maybe post that up too and I'll check it out.

That's $566.44 so far, not including shipping or any rebates. You'll need a DVD drive if you don't have one so add $30 for that and then you gotta get a copy of windows.

can I just get a cheaper case that case is pretty expensive. and can I use vista 32bit for the os?

Sure, you could also drop the ram to 2 gigs. the case comes with a powersupply as well though.

I want 4gb I hate slow computers and okay. whats the diff between 32 bit and 64bit?

64 bit has support for >4GB of ram, I believe it is also slightly faster in performance (not really noticable)

My windows 7 uses 600-700MB RAM on idle. it would use more but i only have 2 gigs until my stick gets back from RMA. With 4 gigs in windows uses 1gb on idle. Keep in mind i have AVG internet security running, that takes about about 150mb, and i have also disabled a heap of startup items and services via msocnfig.

It will be fine, it;s a coolermaster so its quality will be somewhat higher than the no name cheapies you get in generic cases, it will actually deliver it's rated power.

I was thinking if I just got a computer at bestbuy.ca or futureshop.ca for around 550 it would be easier. Could you help me pick one out? no monitor needed or anything.

I think you have a bit of a skewed image of a home built computer. It typically isn't too much cheaper to build a system yourself, if at all, but the quality of the parts you get is MUCH higher than what any OEM brand will give you. Companies like Dell and HP typically use crappy parts, and lock the BIOS on their motherboards so you can't configure the system properly. They also use a lot of proprietary or non-standard parts, which makes upgrading them very difficult.

ooh but it would be a lot easier if I got a already built computer. I never built a computer before and I would have too buy an os and learn to install the parts and I might mess up.
