Well not my for grandparent's...

At my grandparents I have an eMachines 150DVD which won't work with the USB modem because it's my Linux box so I've been looking at a site which is fairly local and found this in the used laptops section:

IBM Thinkpad
Intel P4 Mobile 1.8GHz processor
256MB RAM
20GB HD
CD/DVD Rom
ATI Radeon 16MB Video
14.1" TFT display
Sound with 3.5mm headphone & mic jacks
Ethernet, Modem
2x PCMCIA ports
2x USB ports
XP Professional
Price: £249

It'll be used for internet, a little music, office (OpenOffice), E-Mail and perhaps the odd bit of Folding@Home. nothing too stressing but the Celeron rig isn't really up to much in terms of internet and F@H.

Would this work well for what I need and is it a good price? I was using a Celeron-M 1.4GHz today while my laptop (School only:() is in for repair and it wasn't bad. I'll upgrade the RAM methinks though to 512mb.

get least 512 ram! ive seen your uk. try and get some deal from pc world! they'll be cheap and you could install xp. think for the future! :)

Aye but PC World = overpriced and they won't budge, I just want a knock-around laptop but I'm now looking at an IBM T41, it's more than a basic PC World laptop but I feel it'll be better suited to me as I'm not a massively frequent visitor but then they can use the laptop if need be:

Note I may part out the old Celeron sig and sell the bits for a few quid towards it.
