Basic question about hard drive warranty

Hi

I had this WD hard drive which stopped working. Did an RMA and got a drive from them. I find that the new drive is "recertified". I checked the warranty and it is only till March, 2010. I believe (though i can't be very sure of it) that the warranty of my dead drive was until 2012.

So, should i be concerned about:
a) Recertified...
b)warranty date

Is it normal/is this how warranty works for hard drives?

Thanks guys.

generally they've fixed it and mailed it back to you (same one), with the warranty date the same.
im not sure how that would change with a recertified drive.
considering you don't know the previous owner or such... and the wear that was done to it.. or what was fixed... or... well... i'd be kinda annoyed.
Unless they deemed your drive not fixable.
then that may explain it.
but then even still, a new drive would be the way they'd go.
meh.
shady.
(im just rambling, whatever)

I just checked my other WD replacement drive and 2 other Seagate replacement drives.

They all still have warranty until 2012.

Man, was I cheated by getting a recertified drive. How can they give a brand new drive in some cases and a recertified one in others?

I think you have the right to the original warranty date at least. contact them, they might have cocked up.
