Battery Indicator Problem

I got my HP zx5000 in Jan. '08,called HP and they said it was 3-4 years old.
The battery seemed to last only about 1/2 hour, then yesterday I tried to recondition it.It seemed to work to some extent.I charged it this morning and let it run on D/C with a picture slide show running,it lasted about 1 1/2 hours like that.I think thats a good improvement.

Now,the lighting volt starts flashing meaning power is very low but if I go to the battery meter it says it still has 60-70 percent juice left in it.

Whats wrong?
It the meter bad?

Thanks,
John

Are you saying it won't charge above 60-70 percent?

The battery's probably just on its way out. You're pretty lucky to have a battery that still works after about 3 years or so...

I can charge it to 100%,and when it flashes the low battery the meter reads around 60-70% and then shuts off.

Charged it last nite, turned it on this morning and used it some, loaded a printer drive to it,but it wont work, deleted the drive, just kept it on.It just has shut down after 2 hrs & 10 minutes.

Then when I plug A/C to it will show 5% remaining, but does'nt increase much as it charges till the charging light goes off then reads 100%.
