Battery problem on laptop

I have a Compaq laptop that is about 4 years old. Every time I plug in the battery the little light on the laptop that indicates that the battery is plugged in lights for maybe one minute and then goes off. Sometimes it doesn’t light at all and if I wiggle it around it will come on but again only for 1 minute.

However the hole I plug the battery in always lights up when it’s in, and stays lit all the time.

Now I cannot switch my laptop on anymore. When I hit the power switch, the laptop starts for 2 seconds then switches itself off like it ran out of power.

I am wondering if I should but a new plug battery or if I need to buy a new battery that you put in the laptop or if it’s a problem with the hole I plug it in.

Maybe this is a bigger problem and I should bring it to the shop.

I would be really grateful if someone had any suggestions or if that happened to them.
 
Sounds like the DC-IN power jack is going bad. Depending on your experience, you can fix it yourself. Technicians out there can charge you a leg.
 
If the new charger didn't fix the issue then as overclocker as said, most likely you have a loose power port and usually you can get this repaired for around $100 unless you know how to do soldering yourself. You also may have some additional charging issues with the electrical part of it inside the laptop.

Check with the manufacturer as some laptops require a battery inserted for the power supply to operate the laptop.
