Battery shuts off at 18% power...

Ok, so my battery has been acting up lately, here are the problems:

1. when the battery gets to 18% power, it will completely lose power and shut off abruptly.

2. When I plug in the charger, it will say plugged in, not charging. I have unplug and plug battery back in for it to charge....

I have a HP G60. I replaced the battery a few years ago cuz it went out, and this one was a generic off brand knockoff (saved me $70). It still holds charge and everything, but these two little problems are really grinding my gears.

QUESTION: Is the battery bad, or is it an issue with the computer? TIA

UPDATE** it is now lower than %18 and still running, but still would like to know about this problem

NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER buy cheap replacement batteries for laptops. They will usually not last long and will run into issues such as this. ALWAYS buy a genuine replacement battery. I have started using this site to get replacements as I have a store about an hour away.
