Battery Trouble

I recently tried to replace the battery in my laptop (my freebie one in sig) so I bought this one off of eBay. When I replaced my old battery with this one, it won't hold a charge for more than an hour. Sometimes when I try to charge it, the power meter in Windows says it's not being charged at all but the power left in the battery is at 35%! If anybodies familiar with Thinkpads, my battery light will flash orange when it's trying to be charged but at the same time nothings being charged. Is the battery defective or do you think it might be the computer's fault? I've already contacted the guy I bought I from but still waiting for reply.

Thanks for any help,
Matt

If you ask me I think the battery is defective because thinkpads are amazing laptops. I think the problem about the battery is it is old and was used a lot and after time it won't charge anymore.

Defective battery most likely, seems like he sold you a bad product. Take it up with eBay/seller and see if you can get your money back. Battery failure is alot more common than the actual laptop powersupply.

I put back in the old battery and it charged up normally (even though it won't hold a charge that long) so I think the one he sold me is defective too. I still waiting on a response from him.

I finally got a response for him here it is:
Charge the battery for 2-3 hours, then switch off the "battery maximizer meter" at the right bottom corner of screen. That is to ensure the power can be consumed even after below "0". Unplug the AC adapter, and use the laptop till it drains out all the energy of battery. By right, after "0", it can be used for long time, till it dies off. After that, charge with AC adapter again till 100% and repeat one more time. That will reset the battery from 0 till 100.
I'm having a hard time trying to understand what he's trying to say. Can someone help me out?

Thanks,
Matt

Well, how old is this laptop? This is a mtheod used on very old type batteries that would not take to charging unless they were close to completely drained. Newer batteries don't have this problem.

Batteries do lose their capacity with time, I wouldn't buy a battery off eBay, I'd rather just buy a new one or a refurbished one somewhere rather then from just someone who had an extra or something. That is, unless you bought it off a stoe on eBay.

Yeah, the A22P was known for it's long battery life. I remember it was like 4+ hrs. But of course, this was a new battery and from IBM. The one you bought was most likely a third party brand and it was probably been sitting around for a very long time. The battery's old, even if it was used only once, I would understand the lower capacity due to its age.

I have heard people tell me to "calibrate" the battery. How will I go about and do this? Sorry this is my first laptop I've ever owned:o

Thanks,
Matt
