Battlfield 2

I just installed this again after shelving it and since I have a WS now only way to get support for it is to update to 1.40.1.41 and use a program.

Issue is once I update I get a black screen when I boot it up (no error no not responding) just a never ending (least 10 mins) black screen. It works just fine left without patches (but screen is to horrible to play)

I tried reinstalling it...I removed EVERYTHING and the same issue. This is just BF2 no expansions installed. I wanted to do bit of singleplayer...get my eyes used to the new monitor.

Any help would be appreciate....EA worthless as ever wont help.

Assuming WS stands for widescreen you might be out of luck. I don;t know if this is still true but back from my glory days of BF2 I remember there was no support for widescreen what so ever. In fact enabling it through a hack was considered cheating and constituted a ban.

My advice is to install it without the patchs so it works then enable widescreen (or at least forcing it to a certain resolution)by right clicking on the shortcut > where it says "C:\ Program Files\....\bf2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 add the tags "+szx 1680 +szy 1050" (without the quotes) or what ever your screen res is. I play online all the time doing this. Not Banned or Kicked once.

You'll probably have to update it if you want to play online.

This also works for 2142.

Also if you change any video settings it might take this setting off so set it all to high and crank up the AA first.

hey do you still play online? add me up emac227

Well I saw you went to patch 1.40 didn't know if tried 1.41

Yeah I tried them all...even patch by patch. Dunno wtf is wrong there.

I tried 2 different ways of that and neither of them seemed to work. It would default me to 12xx instead of 1440x900. Then I would patch and boom black screen.

I even tried to edit the .con video files and set it manually (figured nothing to lose) Will try it again and let you know.

try one patch at a time, in order of course. If you've dont that, well, do you have another monitor to test if its really the widescreen doing it? And try downloading the patch from a different site if you didn't already.

Yeah I tried that Elimin8or.

Going to go steal a CRT then try again today. I sold my last 2 I was not aware WS monitors would just stretch the image.

I thought it would just black bar the screens and make the image smaller which I could live with :)

Weird, I resintalled BF2 couple days ago because I just recently bought BF2: SF but everything was fine after installing and patching. Ran at 1680x1050 without changing anything or using a 3rd party program.

Well I guess I am just one unlucky bastard :)

It would seem to be PC related issue then monitor. CRT same result happens. Very strange.

Twist, Vista has some issues with BF2. I have the BF2 version that comes with both expansions, and had it running on my Vista rig for about a day before it black screened. I think the issue has something to do with 64 bit. I have tried many things and also believe that it is resolution related. I've been waiting for EA to do something about this, yet I haven't heard anything. It seems that you are having the same troubles and running 64 bit, so let me know if you find a fix.

Hmm... this happened to me before too, i think the way i fixed it was by downloading the directx 9.0c redistributable, could see if that works for ya;)
