When i want to put a link in a vbulletin forum, i use the usual [ url=website.com ] description of website here [ /url ], and it shows the url i entered in the bottom left corner of the browser window. I was wondering if there was a way to change that so I can put different text there, and so it doesnt show the url i am linking to.

No you can't do that. Well that's not entirely true but I'm not going to tell you how to disguise your links. If what you want to link needs to be hidden from people so that they click it, you shouldn't be posting it.

He's not talking about the link text, he want's to change the text in the bottom left of your browser window when you hover over the link.

I think you can only do it with HTML code? There are "go-by's" all over the place. Just google HTML coding.
