Hi All,

I was wondering... We want to offer the internet in our buildings and they ask me to work on that project. They basically want to become an ISP.

What is the required equipments in order to accomplish such a task?

A switch, a router, a Cache/Billing/Accounting server, a Firewall, a Radius/DNS/Mail Server, am I missing something?

Ummm. Knowledge? You don't just throw a bunch of parts and software together and hope it works. Hell, I don't think that I can even run an ISP and I've been in computers for 18 years.

And how do you acquire knowledge? By doing some research and asking questions... Listen, I've been a Unix SysAdmin for 10 years and now I'm more into Asterisk and telephony... The reason why I'm asking this question is to get the knowledge from experience people in the area. I know this can be done several ways, but first comes first, and I need to know what are the equipments needed in order to do this...

Please no flame. If you know the answer and would like to share it, you're more than welcome. If not, just don't reply and go to the next thread... no hard feelings.

I'm not flaming... You'll know it when I am, trust me...

I respect your education, but a UnixSysAdmin isn't going to cut it I don't think.. Geez, I remember going to look at an ISP setup once. I don't think I'd know where to start. I'll see if I can dig up some resources and post back here... I'm going to go pull a Mr. Google. :P
