Im getting the beep code of one long and then two short. So im lead to believe that it is my ram or vid card. But it doesnt do it all the time, when it does start up it runs fine. Like if i restart the pc every now and then it will give me the code. Does anyone know of this problem? thanks

"Beep Code Description
1 Long, 2 Short A video error has occurred and the Bios cannot initialise the video screen to display any additional information.
Any other beep(s) RAM Problem." http://www.comptechdoc.org/hardware/beepcodes/1.htm
"1 Long, 2 Short Video adapter failure Bad video adapter" http://www.amptron.com/html/bios.beepcodes.html
"1 long, 2 short beeps Display adapter problem (MDA, CGA)" http://www.pchell.com/hardware/beepcodes.shtml

As you can see from these code lists on Award-AMI error code charts your video card is the source. You may be able to end these by simply getting a can of compressed air to clean the AGP/PCI slots out and then reseat the card. If the problems remains your card will most likely need to be replaced soon when it fails. This is according to the information at more then one site.

I had that problem and one stick of ram was defective. I looked up the beep code and found about the video adapter thing...it was only a ram problem though.

On the Asus board here when a dimm was partially lifted in the slot while still looking as if it was down all the way the board beeped one short type of beep constantly(beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, ....) until it was realized that a little more pressure was needed to hear that click as it snapped down. From the system specs in your signature you are running an Asus board that generally has the Award-Phoenix or AMI type bios chipset where the codes listed point at some type of video adapter problem. You may want to try reseating your video card after cleaning the slot and rest of the case with an can of air cleaner to see if a dust/dirt buildup is your problem there with impartial contacts in the slot itself seeing only a partial functioning of the card.
