Beeping during windows update

my computer will not update so i go to windows update
using internet explorer and windows update goes to a screen that says.
"checking to see if you have the latest updating software from windows update"
then i get beep beep beep beep beep beep beep and then nothing happens.

i really would appreciate it if you had any answers to this.
