Beginning of some Mods

So I started my series of small mods on my Elite 330 case yesterday,


First, due to the stupidity of design, the case only has 1 usable 3.5" bay. The 2nd one is specifically designed for the front panel connector for the case, as it has a metal panel with holes for wires behind the panel itself. So after grabbing a nibbler, a plier and a power drill, I took out the metal panel and now I have a 3.5" fan controller mounted :D.

Then I once again used the nibbler and plier and took out the entire piece of metal covering the rear fan. Being a cheap case, there is no fan grill, only little punched out holes. I then installed a fan grill onto the hole, allowing much more airflow, which made my computer quieter.

My next mod is probably going to be an acrylic panel mod, but I'll have to wait until February vacation to do it.
 
You know, I may do that for my rear 120mm fan, because I just have the punched holes. I'll have to look it over again, but I may be able to do the same. Thanks for the idea!

Nice mod, I might do both of those to my elite 331. What's the model of that fan controller?Its nice and simple with 4 dials in a 3.5 drivebay gotta love that.

I got the fan controller in China, so I doubt you'll be able to find it here.
 
Hm it does, my fan controller use to have a plastic panel too, but I got rid of it cause it matches my front panel connectors better. Omega, does your fan controller have the option to turn the fan completely off?

Not completely off, but it can turn the fan speed down quite a bit.
 
Why would you really need the fans off though? If they are running so slow that they are silent, I think thats quiet enough :)

Well in my new computer I used a passive heatsink with an 80mm fan (a really cheap one), so it's pretty handy to be able to turn the fan off during normal usage, and turn it on when i'm gaming. And i can also put a cathode onto it and turn it off.

Why? They don't have more parts than other modding websites like performance-pc but they have some decent items at low prices, especially when it comes to small items, where ordering from newegg would be a ripoff on shipping. I got a 120mm fan grill there for like $4 shipped when it would cost over $8 on newegg.
 
So I got bored tonight and decided to do a mini acrylic panel mod, with VERY limited planning and tools.

I know it's pretty sloppy but hey, what can ya do with a plier, nibbler and slim CD jewel case cover ;)
