bent pins on cpu

Hi, I am building a pc for myself for the first time and the question I am asking is....
I went to install my cpu sempron processor into the socket on my mobo and realised the cpu would not go all the way in on one side.
So I looked on the bottom of the cpu and I had noticed some bent pins so that's why it would not fit...
I read in some manual if there are some bent pins you'll will need an experienced technician to re-straighten them...
However I found a small key to get in amongst them and tried to straighten them. I did it as best as I could then went to try and put it back into the socket. The cpu dropped straight in as it should and so far the pc had fired up and everything seems ok so far.
I have only got as far as putting in my mobo, cpu, ram, graphics card, case fans and monitor so far... There is things showing on monitor about cpu, settings etc..
Finally the question is: Do you think my PC will be OK? Is it worth proceeding?
And do you think I am a lucky chap with what I did to my cpu?
thank you..

If it's not broken don't fix it. And yes, you're a very damn lucky chap. Hopefully nothing blows up...(kidding about the blowing up thing)

Are you sure nothing won't blow up lol
If there was a problem with the cpu nothing will work right?
So you think I can carry on building and everything will be alright?

If the pins didn't fall down from the CPU everything should be okay.

Just to mention this, when you put CPU in its socket, you don't need to use any force at all, I don't know how you managed to bend them in the first place.

I didn't use any force... as I said the cpu wouldn't go in on one side so I had a look and that's when I had noticed the bent pins. I had straightened them as best as I could and then the cpu dropped in fine.there were no broken or missing pins. It probably had some bent pins when I purchased it.
Question for anybody: If cpu had broken or missing pins what wouldn't work?
The whole PC or parts of the PC? thanks

Your PC wouldn't boot, however it will not damage any of your other components.

But the cpu won't be degraded in any way? Like shortening of life etc?
Or like you said it will either boot or it won't?
thanks by the way you and everyone else have been great! ;)

Like you said, it will boot or it won't boot, I don't think it has to do something with shortening the CPU life. Degraded? No.
