Best $200-$250 GPU

I am wondering what card atm "rules" the $200-250 range? They have come out with so many new models in the last 6 months that it is confusing :P

I see thank you for the input. This is actually for a friend of mine but I think the GTX 560 will be his desire. He dislikes ATI's drivers. Though I must admit I think I will wait for the price drops on the 6950...that is one sexy sexy card. Especially if I can snag it for $200 lol.

The 6850 is nice card, and only costs 180. The asus one can be oc'd up to 1.5x it's stock settings I heard. If you have an amd motherboard I would get that one, or for nvidia board i'd get the gtx460 ssc IF you're trying to stay 200 and under. Crossfiring/sli would be relatively affordable too at a later date. I would like to point out something, just because a card is cheaper now doesn't mean it isn't fully capable for your needs. New gen cards eventually become old gen ones, and their price drops when the next thing comes out. What are you really missing out on if you get the older card and save some money due to price drops?

I'd personally save some money and just get a GTX460 1gb. The 560 was a bit of a let down in performance, it can't even beat a 6870 in most benches.

Just get a superclocked edition and it will only be ~5-10% less performance than the 560-

i have no clue where you get your information from but the gtx560 is way better then the 6870.according to these benchmarks the 560 beats the 6970 4 out of 5 times, and when i say beats it really beats it.the only one that the 6870 won at it only won by a slim margin.on these benches they have the 560 OC version and the reference version.here- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUunisex2TY

So you look at one review and thats the end of discussion for you? A review that doesn't even give any details on test equipment or drivers used?

^That last review shows 3dmark11, a true and good DX11 benchmark that is actually unkind to AMD. My gtx470 scores would whip my 5870 scores in 3dmark11, when it real life gaming thats not the case. The 6870 beats teh 560 on both performance and extreme settings.

Also, I've noted that with lower resolutions the 560 seems to really kick ass, but 1920x1080 and higher the 6950 easily pulls ahead in 90% of cases.

BTW, I'm a Nvidia fanboy you can ask anyone here. But the gtx560 is not anywhere near the bang for the buck the SSC 460 1gb is.

lol, them benches you are showing that the 560 is ahead of the 6870 in 60-80% of the benches and also beats the 6950 in some.

Aint that the truth :)

guess not.

1st link, 6870 beats 560 2 out of 2 times

2nd link, 6870 beats the 560 2 out of 6 times (must have been the only link you looked at) but the 6950 beat it all 6 times

3rd link- 6870 wins 4 out of 5, 6950 5/5

4th link- 6950 beats 560, no 6870 in that link

5th link- 6870 wins 2/3, 6950 3/3

NOT once in any of my links in any test did the 560 beat the 6950. 6870 beat it 10/16 times. Thats 62.5% in FAVOR of the 6870, hardly your ''analysis'' of the 560 beating the 6870 60-80% of the time.

So what school did you go too? I want to make sure my kids don't go there because your math and reading skills suck.

There are Nvidia swayed games, and there are AMD swayed games, I put the 2nd link up to be fair not because I couldn't find another bench to show the 6870 pounding the 560.

You can pick up 6870's new for $220-230 now, and I've seen used ones go for $190. Hardly worth buying a 560 at the $250-260 price range.

With that said, I still recommend the SSC gtx460 1gb anyway, at $200 free shipping, it doesn't get any better bang for the buck than that. At 1080p, you can run just about any game at any settings. At 850 core clock, the 460 1gb is actually around the same strength as a 470.

You know I admire your replies when you get into a info war. Not only amusing to read but good information to boot. I laid the info out and it seems he wants to stick with Nvidia so he is going to take the advice and grab a 460 1GB for now and save some money and SLI later down the road when he needs it.

Again thanks for the links/opinions fellas.
