Best 27" gaming monitor?

What is in your opinion the best 27" gaming monitor right now?

I want:

IPS
1440P
27"
G-Sync
at least 120Hz prefer 144Hz

I have heard the Acer Predators are good. Heard bad things about the Dell and ROG Swift, not because the Swifts are bad but because the panels are not always good.

My budget is about $900 US dollars but I can stretch slightly if it will make a difference.

I have no real expertise in this but can I ask what the difference is? As far as I know, there's no performance increase in having a better monitor, so is it just all the picture quality you're after? What is the difference between the "gaming" monitors and just a normal flat screen? I honestly have not compared side by side as I never saw the need to spend more money on a monitor than I had to, but is it worth it as far as the graphical look?
 
Top end gaming monitors have high refresh rates (up to 165Hz) and technologies like G sync which is basically a technology where the GPU is free to render as many fps as it wants from a very low number up to the max refresh of the monitor and there is no tearing. Top end monitors also have better panel technologies, better contrast and brightness, higher resolutions, better color depth, less motion blur, and other goodies.

I'm a PC performance junkie and these high performance monitors have tickled my fancy and I want one :).
 
Well crap, now you have me second guessing my monitor choice. If anything it would be nice to not need a friggn adapter just to use it. Time to go get some guy's hopes up for a commission at best buy comparing monitors then leave, lol.

Every monitor is a panel lottery until you look into the professional range which has been colour calibrated by some dude and visually inspected. Not sure why you'd look at an Acer if you're so against panel lotteries because Acer's QA is god awful. BenQ monitors are only good IF you buy their TN panels. You make no sense.

Well then what monitor do you guys recommend me other than the ASUS and the ACER? I really wanted an IPS panel if possible but a really great TN panel would be okay if it means better overall experience and superior panel quality. I don't want to have to do any exchanging of monitors.
 
Well, there is also the Asus 279Q which is IPS (the 278Q is TN). I can get the 279Q and the newest ACER for the same price. I'm not sure which way to go. Both have mostly decent reviews on newegg. Very few people saying they got bad panels etc so maybe things have gotten better with the late 2015/2016 models.

I would be willing to get a TN if it would mean a better overall experience. What would YOU buy Intel-Man if you were in my position?

I play pretty much every kind of game. I have hundreds of them. RPG, racing, action, FPS, RTS, turn based strategy, point and click, etc etc etc.
 
Depends on what you prefer. TN panels have ridiculously low response times, great for FPS games. IPS offers better viewing angles and colour production, which is probably a better trade-off for RTS games. Up to you really.

Right now, I'm running an IPS as my main monitor, with a TN secondary.
 
I currently play Doom 2016 which is my fastest paced game on a 2010 5ms IPS (but its a crappy one) so I would be fine with another IPS. I really appreciate good color depth and I don't want to go back to TN unless I have to. So basically for IPS and G sync Im stuck with either the ACER or the ASUS? Is that the breaks?
 
Is G sync worth it? It adds hundreds of dollars to the price tag of the monitor. Should I get a more affordable non-sync 144Hz panel?
 
Do you have a card that is powerful enough to run 1440p over 60fps in most games? I mean G-sync is suppose to counter the screen tearing at higher fps numbers. You'll still see Gsync's effect at around 45-50fps, but anything lower, you won't see any difference between a regular 60hz panel.
 
I have a 980 4GB. I realize it's on the brink of what is necessary to run these displays properly but I will be upgrading when the 11XX cards come out. I usually buy, skip 1 to 2 gens, then buy again when it comes to GPU. Monitors last me longer. I'm sick of 1080P 60Hz though been at that level for almost a decade now.

16GB DDR2 2400 C11
980 Windforce G1
ASRock Z97 Anniversary (I love how cheap and how decent this board is)
 
You probably want to hold off from getting one till you get the new card then. Prices will most likely drop by the time you get a new card that is more 1440p friendly.
 
I'm a bit confused then. When the 980 came out people were recommending it as a 1440P card. I'm aware that I will not get 144Hz out of my games but surely 60-80FPS on reasonable settings will be possible, and then when I get an 1180 later on I will have the great monitor waiting for me in my office...?

What are your thoughts Intel Man?
