Over the last 5-7 years, nothing has come close to outperforming Eset's NOD32 and Kaspersky in tests carried out by industry leading independent testers Virus Bulletin. In their 100% VB tests, NOD32 hasn't missed a single 'in-the-wild' virus since 1998 and Kaspersky isn't far behind. What that means to the consumer is that they both detect viri which haven't been formally identified yet which is extrememly reassuring.
When deciding on an anti-virus program I always feel it's good to evaluate what you use the internet for exactly. If you use the net mainly for email and light internet 'safe surfing' to recognised sites, a free program such as Grisoft's AVG or Avast is more than enough protection. However, if like many others you like to download music and surf the odd 'dodgy' site , a NOD32 or Kaspersky license should definately be somewhere in your thinking. Take advantage of their trial periods and evaluate them for yourself.
Like most things in this world, you get what you pay for.
I wouldn't recommend anybody getting Kaspersky. Yes it's good at getting rid of viruses but it eats your system resources like wanno!! If i had the choice of ANY anti virus, i would choose AVG (not the free one) because i think it's excellent.
BitDefender is one of the best anti-virus programs and is cheap at only $25. Virus Bulletin, a impartial anti virus software reviewer, gave Bitdefender the VB 100% logo.
(VB 100% logo is awarded to anti–virus products that detect all current “in the wild” viruses during both on–demand and on–access scanning in Virus Bulletin’s comparative tests.)
i've tried them all and i think AVG is the best one out there, as you can see many other people agree with me on this, or i should say i agree since im posting after them lol
If you're going to pay for your anti-virus, I'd get Trend Micro's PC-cilin. I've seen it and used it, it seems to be the best out there in my opinion. I use AVG Free at the moment, and it does the job, but PC-Cilin is a lor better.
first of all let me introduce some of the anti viruses i've used
i've used
a-squared
Ad aware
win cleaner
avast
norton anti virus 2006
Windows live one care
Mcaffe 2008
Spyware terminator
Kapersky and alot more but i cant remember
i reckon the best one forhome and basic use with good user interface would be the Norton internet security
i'll give you a 5 on this, thats what i use too.
my second best is AVIRA ANTIVIR but avira is a little bit too much..lol..
last time it detected a HEUR\MALWARE in the outlook express directory.it was actually Outlook express itself, the msinm.exe file.
Avast! Top pick of 101 freebies '07
Avg looks like cr*p in my opinion, looks like 20th century anti virus, (the interface) that is how I eliminated to make a pick from those two. Also the scanning detections a little bit better from Avast!, but sure you can rely and depend on AVG Free. I prefer Avast!.
