Best bang for my buck?

What about it?
For the price it doesn't look too bad, the only thing is a celeron that is running at 1.5ghz is gonna be pretty slow, if you can stay away from the budget processors you'll get a lot more out of it. Look for a centrino now since they are even outdated thanks to core duo which will be outdate next month by core 2 duo. Man aren't you glad how fast everything gets outdated.

Is there a way I could find out the battry life and how hot it gets?

[Edit]

Battery life is only 2.5hours according to the abs website, compaired to the 3.5+ of the other one. It is 1 pound lighter, but has a smaller screen. Faster processer then the other one though...

Statwise, how much better is it then the one I picked?

Well its a slow budget cpu vs a turion which is amd cpu made for laptops, so when you need the speed you cpu will go full blast, but when you don't it will slow down its clock to save power, the turion would blow the celeron away.

Would I be right to base the reliability of this laptop off of the other laptops they make? Since this one has no reviews I looked at some of their others and according to what the masses say, they are pretty curdy.

That would be a horrible laptop. It's very expensive, and all you get is a Celeron and Integrated graphics. I would go with the Dell Inspiron, you can get a much nicer Pentium M / Core Duo and a dedicated video card for around the same price. Not to mention you can get the battery that gets up to 6.5 hours of use.

Mostly writing/light game play (Half-Life, Civ 2, stuff like that) I my also use it every now and then to watch movies or something while I wait for my next college class.

If you asked a week earlier, you could have gotten this laptop for only 900 bucks...but its too late now.

Specs:

Core duo 1.66ghz Processor
2GB DDR2 PC4200 Memory
120GB SATA Harddrive
X1400 Mobility with 128MB dedicated memory
15.4" Wide screen

Centino is a wireless chipset associated with the celeron m and pentium m. It is not a cpu.
