Best Brand?

If you catch IBM/ Lenovo when they are offering some deals, you are able to save a bundle. They are by far the nicest laptop I've used.

Alienware. You can customize, there more expensive but offer a better selection and usually have better mobile processors and video cards.

Alienware has just about the worst performance to price ratios . They make really great laptops, but the premium they charge for is insane.

hp, any company that will get you into a laptop with a nvidia 9600m GT 512 MB, over 2.0 Ghz processor, 4 GB memory, and 250 (or bigger) GB 7200 rpm HDD around 1200$ is a great deal.

HP seem nice and good value, but if you can get one IBM are rather nice, I've had a couple of them and they are comfertable to use. Nice keyboard etc.

But yea, HP or IBM.

Well I think that the best performing is Apple but they can be kind of expensive. The best for performance to price is I think Dell or Lenovo.

Dont go with alien ware its expensive for what you get

Apple kinda expensive? for most things people want to do with a computer apple is very expensive. And we are taking about computer performance and for 1200$ apple could have given something better than a nvidia 9400m.

Apple isn't kind of expensive....I dunno how their labtops are priced but desktops its horrible.

Can build a I7 system for half the cost of a 3.0ghz dual-core Apple.

If Apple stopped over pricing so much for a few years Macs would become MUCH more popular...more game support then = even more users.

But the biggest issue is their "our way or the high way" I love how its more stable but not at the expense of GREAT 3rd party programs.

"it's our way or the high way", thats why I got rid of my ipod, after itunes latest update it would no longer play my videos unless it was from the itunes store even if it was in the correct format, it's called greed.

Reason I don't support Apple :)

I use a 4GB IRiver...I don't wanna watch movie or play games....just want music...keeps price down too since all that extra crap isn't there.

When it comes to laptop performance, I like Dell's Vostro series. Lenovo/IBM also have good machines.

I'll attest to Asus' quality in laptops. I've had mine for over two years now and it's still very fast and capable even after two years. Other than Asus, I know Dell makes quality laptops, Acer as well. Lenovo and Sager make pretty solid ones as well.
