Ok so i play the sims 3 alot and i would like a computer that would run the sims 3 and expansions packs + hair and towns and things i would download. I would use it as well for school and using the internet.

I would prefer if it was €800 or under (i live in Ireland)

I would prefer a thin computer and i wouldnt mind a touchscreen

Sims 3 requirements:

FOR WINDOWS XP
2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
1 GB RAM
128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
The latest version of DirectX 9.0c
Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2
At least 6.1 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB of additional space for custom content and saved games

FOR WINDOWS VISTA
2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
1.5 GB RAM
128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1
At least 6.1 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB of additional space for custom content and saved games

For computers using built-in graphics chipsets under Windows, the game requires at least:
Intel Integrated Chipset, GMA 3-Series or above
2.6 GHz Pentium D CPU, or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent
0.5 GB additional RAM
FOR MAC OS X

Mac OS X 10.5.7 Leopard or higher
Intel Core Duo Processor
2 GB RAM
ATI X1600 or Nvidia 7300 GT with 128 MB of Video RAM, or Intel Integrated GMA X3100.

At least 6.1 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB of additional space for custom content and saved games
This game will not run on PowerPC (G3/G4/G5) based Mac systems, or the GMA 950 class of integrated video cards.

Windows Supported Video Cards
NVIDIA GeForce series
FX 5900, FX 5950
6200, 6500, 6600, 6800
7200, 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950
8400, 8500, 8600, 8800
9300, 9400, 9500, 9600, 9800
G100, GT 120, GT 130, GTS 150
GTS 250, GTX 260, GTX 280, GTX 285, GTX 295

ATI Radeon™ series
9500, 9600, 9800
X300, X600, X700, X800, X850
X1300, X1600, X1800, X1900, X1950
2400, 2600, 2900
3450, 3650, 3850, 3870
4850, 4870

Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA)
GMA 3-Series, GMA 4-Series
Laptop versions of these chipsets may work, but may run comparatively slower. Standalone cards that are installed in vanilla PCI slots (not PCIe or PCIx or AGP), such as some GeForce FX variants, will perform poorly.
Integrated chipsets such as the ATI Xpress and the NVIDIA TurboCache variants may default to settings that are higher than what would be optimal for them. Graphics settings can be lowered to improve performance.
The NVIDIA GeForce FX series is unsupported under Vista.

MAC OS X Supported Video Cards
NVIDIA GeForce series
7300, 7600
8600, 8800
9400M, 9600M GT
GT 120, GT 130

ATI Radeon™ series
X1600, X1900
2400, 2600
3870
4850, 4870

Thanks :o

laptop/ desktop?

If it is desktop, do you build it yourself? And do 800 euro include monitor if it is desktop?

Sorry i meant thin not think
How thin do you mean ?
By the way you don't have to get that expensive if you just want to play sims 3, people here will probably recommend the most expensive laptop, but if you wanna keep some extra money, i suggest getting a bit cheaper laptop than 800€

I have an HP Envy laptop, with an AMD APU. It's a quad core AMD A10-4600M at 2.30GHz (But with CPU-Z I've seen it reach 3.20GHz) and it has the dedicated graphics, so you can actually use CrossFire. It has 2.5GB of video memory, which, for a laptop is really not bad.

When playing The Sims 3, I can max out the graphics and get an average of about 32 frames per second, which, even though can be improved, is definitely playable.

Yeah, I mean looking at the minimum requirements the fastest video card the game calls for is a GTX 295 which came out in 2008 and they even say it will run on a GeForce 6200 which was low-end when it came out 10 years ago.

Pretty much any modern laptop with discrete graphics (or even integrated) would run it fine. I have friends who played it on their low-end Toshibas with integrated graphics.

I assume you want a laptop because you posted in this section of the forum.

Well im hoping to run the base game, expansion packs and a lot of custom content. I dont me very thin like a macbook but something portable

800 Euros = £640.

I think something like this would be fine for what you want: http://www.amazon.co.uk/X550CC-XX10...&qid=1407584082&sr=8-5&keywords=nvidia+laptop

i7, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, GeForce GT 720m, £610.

Get them to ship it to Ireland.

What do you think?

Thanks spirit, its a little bit expensive even though i said my budget was €800 but ive been looking at this and im wondering will it work because it only has a 1.7 ghz even though the sims needs 2.4ghz

Yes that's a good choice. Actually has a stronger graphics card than the one I recommended which is what's important! :good:

Thanks:) would it not be a bit slow because it has 1.7 ghz and ill probably be using all the expansion packs....

No that i5 will be fine. It's a dual-core with four threads and although it is only clocked at 1.7GHz it should be more than adequate. And it will boost itself to 2.7GHz when it needs to (see here: http://ark.intel.com/products/81016/Intel-Core-i5-4210U-Processor-3M-Cache-up-to-2_70-GHz). The clockspeed isn't everything.

It's more powerful than a lot of the CPUs that were in existence when that game was made.

Chris, the Intel laptop with the NVIDIA graphics is probably better than the AMD one. Not a big fan of AMD-powered laptops.
