Best CPU For Around $100?

I've been out of the tech circle for a bit and I just wanted some opinions.

What's the best (fastest) CPU I can get for around $100?

I'm looking at the i3 530. ?
 
if you want Intel, then yes. i3 is exceptional for its price (or for INTEL's price). But for AMD you can get a Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition (black edition means the multiplier is unlocked, so overclocking is made VERY simple) for exactly $100 (newegg) and would probably perform better than an i3. Phenom has higher clock rates, and much more cache. so if you're just looking for price the AMD one is better.

except is is JUST the processor no heatsink or anything.

The Phenom II Dual-Core and Gigabyte Motherboard are decent choices you have made Bodaggit23. If you are not doing video games those parts will be very good. If you are doing games you might want to look at the Phenom II Quad-Core Processors.
 
FWIW, I picked up a 530 and love it so far. Stock speed @ 2.93 is great, and wonderful potential to OC if needed. It's a great little chip!
