Best cpu for crysis.

Well, I was wondering since I play crysis and need a new cpu upgrade, which cpu runs crysis better? I don't think I can go with the e8400 because my mother board isn't 45nm ready, at least I don't think it is. So I was just thinking of the q6600. What do you guys think?

do a search and you will see countless threads debating 4 slower cores vs. 2 faster cores, and if i have been reading correctly, most people agree that for now 2 faster cores is better for gaming

correct. i believe quads have been using two cores at 100% while the other two stand around 5%
 
Well if you are going to update the bios for the 45nm why not get the E8400? At the moment, dual cores are doing better in games than quad cores. I see the Q6600 more for multitasking and master computers while C2D do the gaming job. :)
 
How long do you think it will be until games are "made for" quads and then they will beat the Duo. Cause im looking to build a top notch gaming PC and well i will need whats better.
 
Actually I'm pretty sure that Crysis is multithreaded...for quads. I would rather vote for a quad core (as long as its 2.6GHz+) over a dual core, at least for Crysis.
 
I'm using a Q6600, and I play Crysis on fairly high settings (hig/ultra high, and post processing on medium) runs without a problem.
 
I can run Crysis on very high with my Pentium 4 631... i also have an 8800gt. I think that the quad would be better because 2 of the cores (because its not a true quad unlike the phenom) would run the game and the other 2 would run the background processes of windows.

This is just one mans opinion though
