Im well confused about which CPU is best for gaming?

I was going to get a Q6600 then different people tell me different things...

Then i was thinking of getting a E6850 but then.....

I heard of the new intel processors which are coming out... so then i was thinking of getting a E8500 or E8400???

I just need help in chosing a CPU so i can build my pc around that. Also i dont plan to overclock...

Thanks
James

well the best CPU for gaming is the intel core2 extreme QX9770 witch runs at 3.2GHz but over $1000 AUS.
the q6600 is problely the better but i would say get the E8500 just for the extra MHz it will play any game on highest settings an only $266 US

Hi,thanks for the replys

I live in the UK so everything is more expensive.

Im now thinking of waiting to get a E8500 or i may just buy a Q6600 but i think i may regret it.

Stilll confused... lol

Definitely go with the new 45nm range (8000 series - 8200, 8400, 8500 etc..). Not only do they perform WAY better than the 65nm range but they are also soooo cool (temperate wise - pardon the pun).

this topic has been beat to death, if you do a search you will see lots of people having this debate. but what i believe is really important, is i dont think anyone who bought a q6600 or an e6850 has really said "oh darn, i wish i had gotten the other"

both CPUs are great in their own respects

lol except for wafflez he has a q6600 and wish he had the e6sumthin

the new 45nm proc's run better than the q6600, even in multi tasking benches(the e8400, the only 45nm besides the qx9650 i can find with benchies) It's a mild increase mind you, like 1%, maybe 2%, but its still better. And the new 45nm oc like mad men. i get to start work on mine saturday hopefully, but i might have to wait till monday =(

Right now the dual cores are better yes. All applications and games do not utilize the quad core technology yet, but it is the future. You will be fine with dual cores for a while though. At the same time, consider if you want your rig to be future proof, and think about a quad core CPU. GL
