Best cpu for gaming

should i go with AMD Athlon 64 3800+ / 512KB Cache / 2000 MHz FSB / Socket 939 / Processor with Fan or an intel dual core processor at 3GHZ

which one would be better for gaming

Yeah ^

The only "XPs" now are Socket A Semprons. However, they are not good for new generation gaming nor do they provide any great speeds. Your choice these days are the Semprons for socket 754 if yer thinking budget, Socket 754 A64s if you want something a bit better but more expensive and Athlon 64s for socket 939 for the new systems. The Athlon 64s in all its flavours should do fine with gaming. The best choice would be the newest X2s or even better, the FX53 or the FX55 (possibly even FX57).

JAN :D

the amd, its better than intel in both gaming and multitasking
amd yes, multitasking a difinative no.

Not really fair to compare intel dual core with single core amd, maybe try comparing to amd x2 line up of dual cores.

But for a sole gaming rig go with amd64 3800+,

whats your budget

Yes AMD64 is better for gaming, and what he said is true, its hard to compare a dueal core to a single, you CAN get a AMD dual core if you want tough AMD X2's

(this is a non sli board, wasn't sure if you wanted sli or not, if so pick up a MSI K8N Neo4

how come everytime they run benchmarks of amd vs intel they disable hyperthreading?
Because most benchmarks are single threaded (or single threaded enough) ... havign HT enabled is just additional overhead for no reason ... but we're getting off topic

Hehe nice job with the "multitasking" ripken ;)
