Best CPU for me?

Hey,

This will be my first time building my own PC. I've been looking at how to build PCs for about 2 years now, and i'm finally old enough to get a job start getting the parts together. I'm pretty sure on all the parts, except for the processor. (and mobo, of course, depends on which I pick). I'm looking at what seems to be the two most popular CPUs for the time. ( Intel choice vs. AMD Choice).

What are the benefits of these two processors? Right off, AMD looks like the better choice. It's cheaper and signifigantly more powerful for the same price range as the Intel. Is the only downside of the AMD is the power requirement? (125w for amd, and 65w for intel). This computer is going to be for gaming, so i'm going to have a powerful PSU anyway (most likely 750w).

Is there something that i'm missing in the intel processor?

Oh, and speed does not justify anything. Benchmarks do. A Intel C2D (let's say 3GHz) vs AMD Athlon x2 (3GHz). They would not be equal. Not even close.

750W is... overkill... (depends on the rest of your system).

Clock-for-clock Intels beat AMDs (as oscar here already said), plus intels overclock further. Also, most new games out there are probably optimized for Core 2 processors, meaning that you'll probably get more out of them... I'd say go for the intel. AMD is not bad, but unless you're tight on budget you'll be beter off buying a c2d.
