Well right now i have a amd phenom x4 9150e at 1.8ghz.. its pretty slow when i run some games like skyrim and company of heroes and starcraft 2.. so i was wondering what would be the best cpu i could buy without upgrading the mobo??
i was told by a friend that the AMD Phenom II X4 840 would be a good choice. But also i was suggested the AMD A6-3650 Llano 2.6GHz.

what do you think about these choices? and any other suggestions are more than welcome. Id like to stick to newegg or amazon, as they are both very reputable companys with personal experience with.

What is your computer, so we know what socket and what it supports. But i can say there is no way possible for it to use a Llano cpu like that a6-3650, those are on an entirely different socket.

Your current cpu is am2+ socket, the phenom you linked above is am3 socket, i am pretty sure you can run am3 cpu in an am2+ motherboard.

The amd llano you linked is not an option without changing the motherboard, the llano range only run on socket fm1 hardware.

Oh, im sorry, I forgot to say what motherboard I have. According to cpu-z, its a pegatron narra3.

Does it matter what video card I have??

Thanks all!

from what i am seeing you have an OEM motherboard, and it is limited to either 89 or 95 watt processors on the AM2+ socket. I do not think that it will support AM3 with it being OEM like that.

You may see better performance from a new GPU, but you wll need a new PSU though.

Video card is the thing that will speed up ur games far more than the processor!

Depends on what GPU he has though. He does not have a very fast processor to begin with, so even if he has a midrange GPU that CPU could be causing some limitation.

Even my AMD Athlon X2 2.6GHz limited my 8800GTS by a noticeable amount.

He probably has onboard, so in that case, pretty much any new card on the market would be better than what he's got.
