I am looking to upgrade from my old iphone 4s
I have been an iphone diehard, but I am finally thinking of making the switch to android.
The iphone 5s screen is not much of an improvement over the 4s, just a bit taller, an extra row of apps. I think they are losing market share by sticking to the one model release per year and not introducing a larger form factor.
ios7 is all over the place, 3 different keyboards, the lack of uniformity, at last they finally introduce call blocking, seriously, how could they ignore such an important feature for so long.
The phones I am considering as an alternative to the 5s are
Sony Xperia Z1, I really like this device from what I have seen, the screen looks amazing, better than the galaxy s4 in my opinion, I really really like the expandable micro sd card slot which you can change without opening up the phone externals. Also looks to have an awesome camera, iPhones have long held the title as one of the best phone cameras on the market and sony have provided some of the hardware that goes into them. Downside, is the TFT LCD display at certain viewing angles does not seem to hold up as well as a super AMOLED. Finally Sony seems to be back in the race with this phone.
Galaxy Note 3 I really like the stylus on this device, the text recognition is awesome and works so well, a far cry from the text recognition of days gone by.My main concern is that it is too big for day to day use.
Nexus 5 If it is based on the LG G2 which looks to have an awesome screen and awesome camera, this looks like it will be an awesome phone. It will be interesting to see if it gets the optical image stabilisation of the LG G2. And by far the biggest advantage being the ability to upgrade to the latest version of android straight away without having to wait. I think it is a device worth waiting for, hopefully they announce details on 14th october as has been rumoured.
If you were buying a new smartphone now, what would you buy?
