The Windows firewall is outbound only, not inbound.

Whats wrong with windows own firewall?
its only protects you from outbound threats, not inbound ones. In other words it can prevent programs from sending information (like spyware sending logs and stuff), but inbound attacks arent blocked (like someone trying to hack your computer).

i dont use one, they've always interferred with my games so i decided to get rid of them. I usually end up reformating my comp about once a month anyways, so its not a big deal to me. And nothing has happened yet so far :)

Sygate dont do a free version anymore. Well, look on MajorGeeks.com they might still have it. They still got everest home edition, and thats been stopped.

as far as i know sygate as been discontinued. you might be able to find an older version, but it won't be updated. ive been using zonealarm for a while now, and have had no problems with it. some people don't like it because it has to learn the settings your computer, resulting in a lot of popups when you first start using it. i find this to be helpful though so that my firewall won't be blocking programs i don't want blocked without asking first.
